To see turtles in Trinidad and Tobago

Did you know that Trinidad and Tobago is the second country of the world with a bigger turtles community? It is different more of the big attractions of this Caribbean country. Today we want to tell you where you can see them, and when it is the best season to travel and you contemplate these wonderful marine creatures.

So, in general, the best epoch to see to the turtles of Trinidad and Tobago is between March to September. And the fact is that Trinidad and Tobago is the nesting destination of up to five species different from turtles. The turtles are much protected by the local inhabitants, and the government of Trinidad and Tobago does big efforts to preserve them. As result of it, it is necessary to fulfill a series of norms to be able to see them.

Matura and Big Riviere are the most popular places to see turtles in Trinidad and Tobago. Also they usually nest in the Beaches of San Souci, Manzanilla, Maracas, Tompire, Corner, Fishing Pond, Guayama, Blanchisseuse, Mission and Patience Bay. Also turtles have been seen in Pariah Bay and the beaches of Madamas and Big Tacarib, although there are more remote places to which it is possible only to come in ship.

In Matura and Big Riviere it is necessary to acquire a series of permissions to be able to see the places of nesting of the turtles, since the eggs are protected. Both areas offer holding a permit visits and simple accommodations in the proximities of the beaches.
The area of Black Rock in Tobago is an excellent place to see to the turtles putting his eggs. Especially in the beaches of Turtle, Grafton and Black Bay. There are many apartments and hotels with delight in these places. Also the hotels usually have tourist guides to see the turtles.

Due to the big efforts of conservation of these species, there exists the possibility of becoming a volunteer to take care of the process of nesting of the turtles. The group Nature Seekers works in the beach of the Turtles of Matura. This group always needs of volunteers, both local and international, during the nesting period. Any possibility of traveling to Trinidad and Tobago and of seeing closely to the turtles is gratifying.
